THE IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON THE MANAGEMENT OF BUSINESS IN THE RURAL COMMUNITIES OF NIGERIA
ABSTRACTThis study investigates the impact of globalization on the management of rural communities in Nigeria, with a focus on traditional practices, agricultural management, and socio-economic changes. The research aims to understand how globalization has influenced traditional management systems, agricultural resource utilization, and the socio-economic structure of rural communities. It also examines the challenges these communities face in adapting to global demands while maintaining their cultural and traditional practices. The study employs a survey method using a 4-point Likert scale and gathers data from 120 respondents in rural areas. Key findings reveal that globalization has weakened traditional leadership structures and disrupted communal decision-making processes. It has, however, introduced modern agricultural practices that have enhanced productivity but simultaneously increased competition for resources and put pressure on local methods. Socio-economic developments, such as improved living standards, higher income levels, and better access to education and healthcare, were noted, though challenges such as cultural erosion and increased inequality persist. The study concludes that while globalization offers both opportunities and challenges, integrating modern practices with traditional systems is crucial for the sustainable development of rural communities. Recommendations include strengthening traditional leadership, promoting local products in global markets, and investing in education and training to help rural populations adapt to globalization. This research provides valuable insights into balancing traditional and global management systems, offering practical strategies for policymakers, rural communities, and future researchers to foster development while preserving cultural
